The development of domestic architecture in Late Antiquity is marked by a strong continuity with the Imperial Period as well as by innovations, that aim to underline luxury and social hierarchy. How does the sculpture decoration respond to the architectural changes? Since the late Republican Period the display of sculptures can be considered a distinctive mark of domestic luxury, but its development over time, especially concerning the urban houses, has not received the proper attention by the scholars. The present contribution aims to collect the available documentation from roman domestic contexts, that, despite its fragmentation, can hopefully help to sketch some characteristic patterns of the sculpture display in the late antique domus.
