Suidas includes an entry dedicated to Severus Alexander. In it, the image of the emperor appears discordant to the conventional one found in the historiographic tradition. This particular depiction originates from an incorrect interpretation of sources, namely an excerptum drawn from John of Antioch’s work, carried out by the lexicographer. The analysis of the one and only existing manuscript containing this excerptum might explain the origin of the mistake.
