L’articolo esamina le tracce archeologiche degli assedi nell’Italia medio e tardo-repubblicana, un campo di studio che in Italia non ha ricevuto la stessa attenzione riscontrata in Spagna. Gli indicatori di assedio sono costituiti da armi, depositi di proiettili, ristrutturazioni, strati di obliterazione, apprestamenti di emergenza e sepolture anomale, documentati da contesti databili tra IV e I sec. a.C. Tali evidenze sono principalmente ricondotte alle guerre annibaliche, al bellum sociale (91-88 a.C.), al bellum servile di Spartaco (73-70 a.C.) o alle conseguenti guerre civili.
The article examines the archaeological traces of sieges in Middle and Late Republican period in Italy, a field of study that has not received the same attention in Italy as it has in Spain. Siege’s markers consist of weapons, deposits of projectiles, restructurings, obliteration layers, emergency fortifications and anomalous burials, documented by contexts datable between the 4th and 1st century BC. Such evidence is mainly attributed to the Punic Wars (Hannibalic Wars), the Social War (91-88 BC), the Servile War of Spartacus (73-70 BC) or the subsequent civil wars.
