This paper offers a critical reassessment of a group of marble clipei fragments traditionally attributed to the portico in front of the Basilica Aemilia, facing the Roman Forum. The reconstruction of the monument, generally identified with the porticus dedicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, still presents numerous unresolved issues, particularly regarding the configuration of the attic above the arcade system articulated by engaged columns. On the basis of an integrated analysis – stylistic, architectural, and archival – the paper questions the original association of the marble clipei with the attic of the Forum complex and instead proposes a more plausible attribution to the porticoes of the Forum of Augustus.
