The paper focuses on an unpublished coin hoard (IGCH 1878) coming from Edward Perry Warren’s collection (1860-1928) and acquired by the British Museum in 1929. It consists of 14 silver incuse staters issued by the main Achaean mints in southern Italy (Metapontum, Sybaris, Caulonia and Kroton) between the second half of the 6th and the beginning of the 5th century BC. The first part of the study examines Warren’s interest in Greek coinage and the formation of his large numismatic collection. The second part addresses more specifically the analysis of the hoard in the broader context of monetary circulation in Magna Graecia.
