Some unpublished archival documents allow us to reconstruct the discovery of the Ephebe and its subsequent acquisition at the newly instituted Civic Museum of Girgenti. The identification of the find site on the southern slopes of the Rupe Atenea calls into question the traditional storytelling about an important symbol of the ancient Akragas. The picture, which also emerges on the light of the known archaeological evidence, allows us to advance hypotheses on the presumed context of origin of the statue, opening new perspectives to research on the city of Theron.
